Niel Fashion Club

Urban Stitch

A tailoring brand isn't just about the fit — it's about the feeling. A stitch is more than a strand of thread — it's precision, craft, and identity. Urban Stitch is a comprehensive brand identity project for Niel Fashion Club, a Nigerian fashion brand focused on blending style, comfort, and affordability. I built Niel Fashion Club's visual identity around elegant needle-and-thread symbolism and a luxurious gold, black, and white palette – transforming how the emerging label presents itself across digital and physical touchpoints and leaving customers feeling sharp and unmistakably distinguished.

Intro

Niel Fashion Club launched as a made‑to‑measure brand for Nigerians. They had no visual identity, just a name and strong interest in tailoring. I built their entire brand system from scratch: a custom circular emblem where a sewing needle forms the vertical stroke of an "N" and flowing thread completes it, framed by a decorative stitch border. The palette is timeless black, opulent gold, and pure white. I delivered logo variations (vertical, stacked, horizontal, landscape), size guidelines for screen (32px min) and print (10mm min), color meanings, brand patterns (needle stripes and logo tiles), typography (Beautique serif, Sacramento script, Tilda sans), and a full mockup suite: storefront signage, clothing tags, packaging, business cards, shopping bags, and social media templates. The result is a brand that makes high-quality fashion accessible while celebrating self-expression, balancing heritage with a modern visual identity. The identity communicates elegance, prosperity, purity, and empowerment – perfectly aligning with the tagline “your beauty, our priority.

Project Overview

Niel Fashion Club is a proudly Nigerian brand that serves a wide audience, from young adults to families, offering clothing that balances style, comfort, and accessibility. Their mission: draw from African fashion heritage, maintain global appeal, and keep prices accessible for all. At the start, the brand had no visual identity system — no logo, color palette, typography, or structured brand assets. I was hired to build a complete visual identity that positions Niel Fashion Club as a premium yet accessible label in the competitive Nigerian and diaspora market.

The Challenge

Niel Fashion Club had a clear vision for quality, inclusive fashion, but lacked a unified visual identity capable of conveying luxury, cultural pride, and approachability simultaneously. The project presented three core challenges:

First, a complete lack of visual identity.

Second, dual audience – the brand needed to appeal to both men and women, adults and teens, Nigerians and abroad, without feeling disjointed.

Third, budget constraints – the client required a premium-level identity system without the resources of a full-scale branding agency.

Key requirements included a memorable logo that would stand out in a saturated market and symbolize craftsmanship. The logo had to be applicable across multiple sizes ranging from a 10mm clothing tag to a 2‑meter storefront sign. The color palette had to feel luxurious without appearing inaccessible or aspirational to the point of exclusion. And every asset had to be usable by a non‑designer after I handed over the files.

Design and Execution – Key Insight

The key insight was that a powerful fashion brand identity should go beyond aesthetics – it should reflect the process behind the product. It succeeds when it makes the customer feel seen, valued, and elevated. I centered the identity around the metaphor of “stitching beauty” – where the needle (craftsmanship), thread (connection), and stitch (precision) became the visual language. The circular emblem, representing wholeness and community, features a stylized "N" where a sewing needle forms the first vertical stroke and a flowing thread curves into the rest of the letter, all enclosed by a decorative stitch border. The tagline "your beauty, our priority..." wraps around in a soft script. For typography, I selected Beautique (high‑contrast serif, for elegance), Sacramento (script, for warmth), and Tilda sans (clean sans‑serif, for digital readability). The palette – black (authority, timelessness), gold (wealth, prestige, craftsmanship), white (purity, fresh canvas) – creates a harmonious blend of luxury and approachability.
This approach ensures the brand communicates high value without alienating price-conscious buyers. The identity was anchored by five brand values — Easy and Stylish, Always on Trend, Comfort Matters, Be Yourself, and Affordable Quality — which guide every design decision, template structure and application across the system.

Production Reality – From Sketches to a 26‑Page Guide

The process began with audience research, competitor analysis across the Nigerian fashion market, and 10+ exploratory logo sketches before any digital work started. The final emblem required precise vector construction: the needle's eye had to align with the thread's curve, and the "N" had to remain fully legible at 10mm — the size of a clothing hang tag. Once the mark was locked, I built every application systematically: size guidelines calibrated for both screen (32px minimum) and print (10mm minimum), brand patterns in two configurations for seasonal use, a full typography specimen showing all three typefaces, and a mockup suite spanning every physical and digital touchpoint the client would realistically need — storefront signage, packaging, business cards, shopping bags, and Instagram templates.
The full deliverable was a 26-page print-ready brand guide with source files in Affinity, Illustrator, and Photoshop.

Full Mockup Suite – From Tags to Storefront

To prove the identity's real-world scalability, I built mockups for every touchpoint the brand would encounter — storefront signage, clothing hang tags, packaging inserts with branded thank-you copy, business cards, shopping bags, and Instagram templates. The goal was to show the client exactly how the mark performs from a 2-metre sign above a doorway down to a 10mm label inside a collar.

Outcome

The brand guide was delivered as a complete, handover-ready system — source files, print specifications, and usage rules. The client launched their Instagram presence and ordered business cards within the first week of delivery. The logo-in-sphere artwork became their profile image; the needle pattern appears across their story highlights.
The clearest measure of success was autonomy: a non-designer can keep the brand consistent without extra guidance.
